Ear Wax Cleaning
Cleaning ear wax out of the outer ear is ok, just be careful not to stick anything into your ear. You should always be very gentle when cleaning ear wax.
Remember, ear wax buildup in the outer ear is a perfectly normal function of the human body. Ear wax is the substance made by your body protect your ear canal from things like dirt and infection. However, sometimes the ear wax can accumulate and you might want to do some ear wax cleaning!
Properly cleaning your ears is also the best way to prevent inner ear wax buildup, which can be painful or lead to hearing loss.
I don't recommend using cotton swabs or sticking anything inside your ear. In fact, it is suggested that you use a damp washcloth draped over the end of one finger, and gently wipe only the parts of the ear you can reach with the cloth-covered finger.
You should also be careful about using a cloth that is very wet or soapy, because excess soap or moisture inside the ear may cause infection.
Another simple technique for ear wax cleaning is known as the "hot water bottle technique". You siimply fill the hot water bottle up with warm water, and lie down with your affected ear pressed against the bottle. This will help loosen ear wax, and it will come out much easier.
If you are not successful with any of the methods described above, you can try one of the many earwax removal products available to buy online (click here).
